Jewellery Care

As with all jewellery that has been made from precious metals, Aurelium jewellery is delicate and should be handled and stored with care.

Below are some tips for looking after your handcrafted jewellery so that you can enjoy its beautiful shine for many special moments to come.

Care tips for sterling silver and gold vermeil jewellery:
  • Apply moisturiser, makeup, perfume and hairspray before putting on jewellery.
  • Avoid contact with household chemicals and chlorine in swimming pools and spas.
  • Do not wear while exercising, swimming, cleaning, showering, or sleeping.
  • After wearing your jewellery, rub it with a soft cloth (e.g. microfibre) before storing it away.
  • Store your jewellery in a small ziplock bag with an anti-tarnish tab (provided free of charge with every jewellery order). This will help to prevent your jewellery from rubbing against other surfaces and getting scratched.

Additional notes for sterling silver jewellery:

  • Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time when exposed to sulphur and acids that are found in our environment. Storing your sterling silver jewellery in the ziplock bag mentioned above will help to slow down the formation of tarnish.
  • To remove tarnish from your sterling silver jewellery, use a polishing cloth specifically designed for use with silver (provided complimentary with every silver jewellery order).
  • For stubborn tarnish, briefly soak your sterling silver jewellery in a bowl filled with warm water and a drop of mild dishwashing liquid (not anti-bacterial), then gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. See here for full instructions.

Additional notes for gold vermeil jewellery:

  • Aurelium gold vermeil jewellery is plated with a 2.5 micron layer of 14ct gold.
  • Gold vermeil naturally wears over time, especially on necklaces and rings where there's more contact and friction. Please take particular care to follow the tips above.
  • Please be aware that you will be able to enjoy your gold vermeil pieces for longer if they are not worn on a daily basis.
  • To clean your gold vermeil jewellery, wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth (provided complimentary with every gold vermeil jewellery order). If this does not restore the shine to your jewellery, briefly soak them in a bowl filled with warm water and a drop of mild dishwashing liquid (not anti-bacterial), then gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. See here for full instructions.
  • Replating your jewellery is possible if you'd like to refresh the gold layer in the future. Please contact me for more information.
